About the club
How many members do you have?
This fluctuates from year to year but typically we have over a 100 members at any one time.
What sort of people are they?
All sorts! Our youngest member is 14 and our eldest regular diver over 70. We have divers of both sexes and people from a variety of backgrounds.
As diving qualifications are concerned we have a good mix of divers from 1st class divers through to trainees. We also have a growing number of trimix divers, a good few nitrox divers and even the odd cave diver.
How many instructors do you have?
Officially there are about 25 people within the club with a dive training qualification of some sort. To be fair, some of these have now "retired" from training although we have new people qualifying as instructors each year. At any one time there are 10-15 people actively involved in training in the club.
How often do you run training courses?
Club Diver training is run as often as we have people to train! Typically this means that we run 2-3 full club diver courses a year. We run Sports Diver courses following club diver courses (pretty much on a one-to-one ratio) and dive leader courses yearly if there is demand. We also run various skill development courses (for example Nitrox, Oxygen Administration and Boat Handling) from within the club.
Where do you dive?
Often for single day diving (at week-ends) we launch from either East Beach or Bracklesham Bay on Selsey Bill. From here we have access to about 30 dive sites for which we have accurate GPS marks. But we dive all along the South Coast and much further a field
On Bank Holidays the club goes further afield. This year we went to Cornwall, Kimmeridge, South Wales and St Abbs.
There is a regular hard boat programme throughout the year with boats launching from Littlehampton, Weymouth and Salcombe.
Various trips are organised throughout the year; in the 2001 season we have had club trips to Norway, Scapa Flow and the Red Sea.
There are very few global destinations which members of the club have not reached (last ywear we even had a group going to Russia in winter to dive under the ice).
